On knowing what to draw...

I look around and there so many people who are not clear what they want to do and what is their passion. I personally am from the camp that if you have a passion, that’s great and you need to pursue it but I do not think propagating that people first need to find their passion is helpful. For those of us who do not have a clear passion, what helps is exploration and being open to the opportunities that come. That is why the quote from Picasso resonated so strongly with me. Sometimes, we need to start doing something to figure out what the next steps are. Clay Christensen says in his book “How are you going to measure your life?” that if we do not have a clear purpose, we need to stay open to opportunities and evaluate whether they take us in an interesting direction. The key to all this is to be able to strike the right balance between when you have to persevere and when it is ok to take the new opportunity. Another important thing is to be ok not to know where is this step taking you - tolerating ambiguity while exploring.

As my boss says: you need to be in the race in order to have a chance of winning.
